Data suggests that car thefts in New Jersey are at epidemic proportions. Every day, 44 cars of various makes and models are stolen in the state of New Jersey, according to the state Auto Theft Task Force. Local police departments tell News 12 New Jersey that home invasions have become commonplace as a result, as car thieves break in to get at key fobs for the vehicles.

4)  New Jersey - Illegal immigrants percentage: 6.26%
Located in the Northeastern region of the United States, New Jersey is the most densely populated state. The north and northeastern boundaries of New Jersey are surrounded by New York. Delaware and Pennsylvania are located toward its west. The capital of New Jersey is Trenton, with a total population of 90,457 people.  New Jersey is quite accommodating of illegal immigrants. In New Jersey, illegal immigrants enjoy some of the rights of regular US citizens, such as minimum wage benefits. New Jersey’s 568,500 illegal immigrants make up 6.26% of its population.

5) Assaults against NYPD cops have skyrocketed by more than 25% this year, troubling new police data obtained by The Post shows. So far in 2023, 1,731 assaults on cops have been reported, compared to 1,371 for the same period last year — a 26.25% increase, the NYPD statistics show.

These are just some of the issues we are all dealing with. Now if we can get the politicians to agree that our country is going in the wrong direction and they ALL need to take some proactive measures utilizing the ‘The Broken Windows’ theory and any other lawful, legal and moral means to help the community.  When law enforcement Is not allowed to enforce the laws, how do you expect the criminals to fear any penalties when there are none. Car thieves, shoplifters, looters, burglars have a high probability of walking away without any corrective action.  Many officers have commented that they are not allowed to motor vehicles over for some of the violations.  Let’s not forget that Son of Sam got apprehended for a parking violation summons; Timothy McVeigh, (a terrorist) the Oklahoma City bomber and Ted Bundy the serial killer both were arrested as a result of motor vehicle violations. Obstruction of Administration, aggravated assault on police officers and medical personnel, resisting arrest violators need to have a significant jail time.

As always the Chief of Police is responsible for the ethical behavior of her/his personnel.  They must be disciplined as needed but also recognized for their achievements. The training should be continuous and current. The NJNEOA is making sure that you receive the training you need to survive on the ‘job’. Our six-day Basic TNT Class # 14 is almost full  and our three day Advanced TNT is scheduled with great instructors and content that is geared not just for narcotics detectives but any law enforcement officer who wants to be well prepared for any obstacles that may rise.

As always retired A/P Cindy Glaser continues to make certain that the attendees are well versed in case laws, search and seizure, Title 2C, etc. We emphasize that we must do our due diligence in all investigations.  We must treat every victim with dignity and respect and give our all and the best efforts in solving their case.  Just look at yourself and your co-workers and ask yourself the question, “Would I want this officer to investigate my case if I was the victim”!   We won’t win over every member of the public but more the better.  You are getting paid to do a job and NOT watch NETFLIX and TIK TOK!

Let’s hope we have a great 2024!  Better to be prepared for anything that comes our way and survive the challenges of today’s world.  STAY SAFE!
